Video #5: How to Use Essential oils

So how do you use these gems?

There are 3 ways to get them into your body:

  • Aromatically: Simply breathe them in. You can breathe from the bottle, diffuse them into a room, use diffuser jewelry, rub them into your hands and inhale, whatever you are comfortable doing.
  • Topically: Rubbing them onto your skin so your skin absorbs them.  (Note: If using this technique, be sure to test on a small patch of skin to see how you react to the oil. You may be able to use it “neat” [straight out of the bottle], but sensitivities are common and can sometimes develop when using them this way. We recommend blending the essential oil with a carrier oil, any food-grade, vegetable oil such as coconut, avocado, olive oil, etc.)
  • Internally: Adding the oils into water, tea, food (for cooking) or a capsule. (Note: We only recommend doing this method with Young Living oils that are labeled for internal use.)

Be sure to play with the oils:

In other words, start low and go slowly. You can always add more. We recommend no more than a drop or two, see you you react in 30 min or so, then do more.

Test oils all three ways to see how they effect you. Sometimes you will need to use an oil topically and other times aromatically. It will depend on the you, the oil and the purpose for the oil.

PLUS, how you use oils for calming might be different than how your spouse or child does.

We recommend writing down what works (and what doesn’t) in a journal so you can remember for next time.

Stay in your comfort zone:

If you don’t want to take them internally, don’t. You have 2 other ways to experiment with. Personally, I don’t enjoy topical because my skin is highly reactive. I much prefer internal and diffusing.

It’s okay to stay where you are comfortable!

Other notes:

Also, don’t drop the oils into your eyes, nose or ears or use on mucous membranes.

Fun Info: How fast do they work?

While it depends on how you administer the oils, just know it is pretty darn quick. 🙂

Inhalation:

If you inhale them, they effect the brain within 22 seconds.

Topical:

If you rub them on your skin, the oils can be found in your blood stream within 2-3 minutes and in every cell of the body in 20 minutes.

Internal:

Swallowing the oils is more complicated because the oils need to enter the digestive track so it depends on a few more factors. But know it is as fast as 20 minutes.
