Got shoulder tension?
Not sure I know anyone who doesn’t. (Actually, if you don’t, I would love to hear from you! Comment below.)
Computer use, hunching over our phones, poor posture, you know all the things that effect the tension in your shoulders.
The biggest one for most of us is stress.
And with all the stress we have been through over the past year, let’s just say things are bad.
Here’s the thing, stress causes tension and shoulder tension exacerbates stress.
I used to do this experiment with my Yoga Teacher Trainers and it is quite illuminating. I would have them raise their shoulders just a bit and then I would go off on an apparent tangent for just a couple of minutes, letting them sit there uncomfortable.
Within a couple of minutes, they would report feeling more stressed, anxious. Try it yourself.
If stress causes tension and tension causes stress, well, you see where I am going.Breaking this constant cycle is so important for us.
In this video, I share with you a bevy of ways to release some of the tension in your shoulders.
Take the ideas to work for a work break or before bed to help you relax for sleep or anytime during the day.
Do your favorite stretch or the whole series.
Focus on your breath as you stretch. You will find your breath will get easier, too.
Let me know how it feels!
