Yoga pose of the month: Let’s study Parivrtta Trikonasana (Revolved Triangle Pose) this month. Take this month to spend time in this pose, teach it to your students, and bring it into your practice. Here are some ideas for you to consider:
- What does the pelvis do in your pose? Play with squaring it more and letting it rotate more. What happens in your pose?
- Can you feel the entire body revolve?
- Are you using your abdominals to help you revolve? You need to use them to help you without gripping which will prevent you from going further.
- Use the wall to play with the pose. First, have your back to the wall and twist into it. You can use the wall to help you revolve more deeply. If you are very twisty, do it the other way, too, facing the wall and twisting so your shoulders are squarely on the wall.
If you are a teacher, challenge yourself to teach this pose in each class this month. Add this component: Can you find something new to teach (and learn)?
There are times when I am asked what the name of a particular pose should be in another language. This recently came up again, raised by a French speaking Yin Yoga teacher.
