Letter to New Students

Welcome to class! Here’s what to expect:

Classes with me are very interactive. While I enjoy teaching online, I was an in-person teacher for over 30 years. I like to get to know you and enjoy questions popping up. You don’t need to mute your speaker unless you have loud background noise. I want you to feel comfortable asking questions. It’s the greatest perk of joining me “live”.

Injuries; Pleaes let me know if you have any injuries or anything I need to know about your body to help keep you safer. You can let me know right in class (I ask the entire class every time) or you can message me ahead of time.

Personal Adjustments: I do adjust during class so I prefer if I can see you through your camera. It’s your choice to leave your camera off if you are more comfortable. Please know that if I ask why you aren’t doing a pose or doing a variation, I am truly curious why you are doing it that way so I can help. It’s ok to keep doing it your way unless I know it could lead to injury.

Props: I definitely recommend props. I don’t recommend going out to spend a ton of money if you are just trying out Yoga, but I want you to have somethings for class:

  • Mat: a Yoga mat is a safety equipment. It helps keep you from slipping. If you don’t already have one, a friend will. If you can’t find one, do the class on a hardwood floor, it will keep you from slipping.
  • Firm blanket: Sitting on something keeps our lower back safer. A wool army blanket, firm cotton blanket, or a firm cushion from you couch.
  • Strap: Just grab the belt from your robe. Done!
  • Block: You will need something to rest your hips on if you are doing the Saturday class. You can use a thick book or maybe a small roller.

Feel free to reach out if you have questions.
