YouTube: Balanced Weight in Mountain Pose | Yoga with Laura

Change is one of life’s few constants, yet it’s something we often struggle to accept. Whether it’s a shift in career, relationships, or personal habits, change can be uncomfortable and even scary. It forces us out of our comfort zones and into the unknown. However, while change may be challenging, it is also an essential part of growth.

And there are tools to help us through it. One powerful tool is yoga.

Yoga offers a unique approach to embracing change because it teaches us to stay present, grounded, and open to what unfolds in our lives. Yoga also builds resilience, both physically and mentally, which is crucial when facing the discomfort that comes with change.

More specifically, we can do two things on the Yoga mat that will help us with change:

  • Build Personal Strength: Β I define personal strength as the “umph” behind “I’ve GOT this” or “I DESERVE this”. You know that feeling you get when you are feeling like you are on top of a challenge with a plan and capability? That’s personal strength and we can 100% get stronger on the Yoga mat. Standing poses are the most powerful, specifically Tadasana and Warrior poses – which we will do in this video. You may also want to check out these videos:
  • Build Emotional Flexibility: We resist change for a reason – the status quo in life is easier to maintain than change. But Yoga helps us release resistance. Think of it this way: We hold resistance in our body. You may evenΒ feel where you are holding a particualr resistance to something. You may know where it is by where you feel tightening when you think about it. As we release that tension through Yoga, we also release our mental resistance (the mind-body connection is real.) We release mentally and energetically through twists – which we will do in this video.

Twists also represent our ability to see things from a new perspective. Just as we twist our bodies, we can twist our minds, viewing change not as something to fear but as an opportunity for growth and transformation. As we practice twisting poses regularly, we may begin to notice that we feel lighter, both physically and mentally. The resistance we once held onto begins to dissipate, and we are left feeling more open and adaptable to life’s changes.

In the end, change will always be a part of life, but with tools like yoga, we can navigate it with more grace and ease. By building resilience on the mat, releasing resistance through twists, and staying present with our breath, we become stronger, more adaptable, and better equipped to handle whatever life throws our way. Yoga teaches us that while we may not always be able to control what changes come our way, we can control how we respond to them. And in that response, we find our power.
