So how are the resolutions coming along? Have you So how are the resolutions coming along?

Have you given up?

If so, here is one thing I want you to remember: Don’t expect perfection.

We are all about black and white here - we are either on a diet or we aren’t and if we have ONE cookie, we have to start ALL OVER, rather than just getting up and keeping on.

So if you have given up on your resolutions or any goal, but you really want it, start again…and again…and again.

Each moment is a new moment and a time to begin again.

Talk to me. Are you a “leap out of bed I’m re Talk to me.

Are you a “leap out of bed I’m ready to start the day” type person?
Or
A “snooze 5 times” type person.

I am such a snoozer but I don’t understand why. I LOVE mornings! I love getting up before the sun, the quiet of the house and a robust morning routine/ritual.

I so want to be a jump out of bed person and not waste a minute of the glorious morning!

Tell me are you a leaper or a snoozer?

AND, if you went from snoozer to leaper, how did you do it?
Are you ready to move forward in your life? What Are you ready to move forward in your life?

Today we are on our very last tip. (Which means the full quote has been revealed!)

I hope it is inspiring you to grab a resolution or two for yourself!

DON’T forget where you’re going!
DO remember why you are doing what you do!

These thoughts will fuel us when the decision to do the “right” thing in any moment gets tough.

This step is huge for moving forward. The more we can remind ourselves of why we are doing what we are doing, the easier it is for us to keep moving forward.

Get EXCITED about where you are going and keep remembering that excitement!

Here are a few ideas for fueling your excitement:
💥 Start each day thinking about your vision before you get out of bed.

💥 Vision Boards—images that represent where we are going.

💥 Keep images closer at hand. Place them in your journal or use them as wallpaper on your phone or computer.
💥 “Remembories”—a word my young daughter used when she was learning “remember” and “memory”—something you wear that reminds you of your work. A special bracelet you wear or a watch on the wrong wrist can keep us conscious rather than falling mindlessly into our old ways.

Today we are on #2. (We are working backwards.)

DON’T hang out with the same crowd. (Or maybe do!)

We need everything working in our favor when making changes in our lives.

If we hang out with people who supported our old behavior, it’s much harder to make changes.

Instead, if we surround ourselves with people who believe in what we are doing and believe we can succeed is integral to our success.

Hang out with people who represent where we are going, not where we have been.

Today we are on #3. (We are working backwards.)

DON’T forget self-care.
DO take great care of yourself.

Change takes an enormous amount of energy. When we are making changes in our lives, creating new habits and stepping into our new way of being can be exhausting.

Think of self-care as fuet.

Think of it this way: when you are well-rested, do you make better food choices? Aren’t you more likely to make a nourishing meal rather than grabbing quick comfort food?

We need more sleep, more down-time, better foods, more water—you name it. We all need to up our self-care game.

Today we are on #4. (We are working backwards.)

DON’T change everything overnight.
DO start small.

“On January 1st (or Monday morning), I am going to start exercising everyday, cut out all sugar, focus on making more money and [insert your change here].”

We’ve all done it and meant what we said. And do we succeed?

Taking smaller, more sustainable steps is the key to success. Want to start to exercise? Promise yourself to do one session a week. Want to eat better? Change one meal a day. If we think in terms of having the whole year to make changes, we can slowly add, bit by bit, letting each change settle into habit before we add another one.

BUT you also need to add into your schedule a regular time to remember your resolution and add a bit to it, take the next step.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the dailiness of life and forget to take your next step. Be strategic and systematic. When I set my resolutions, I plot out the whole year and when I will take each step. Then I add the actions right into my planner.

Sooo...are you pro- or anti-resolution? I get BOT Sooo...are you pro- or anti-resolution?

I get BOTH!

BUT as a Life Coach, my JOB is to help people achieve what they really, really, REALLY want! That means being able to set a goal that you achieve.

So stick with me over the next FIVE posts when I share why New Year’s Resolutions don’t work...and how they can.

Today, I will share #5:

DON’T set resolutions from a place of frustration.
DO decide what you want and get excited about where you are going.

Often, the desire for change comes from sheer annoyance with a certain area of our lives.

We check the mirror and are disgusted by our shape, look in our checkbook and are frustrated by the balance, spend time with our mate and realize the relationship is far from what we want.

While frustration is where most of our desire to change begins, we want to quickly switch over to focusing on what we want because that will fuel our motivation when times get tough.

Stick with me here.

When we are working on making changes in our lives, we need to do things differently. We need to change our game. But when the time comes to choose between our old way of doing things and our new way (like eating the healthy snack rather than the junk or getting up early to practice rather than sleeping in), we need to dig deep to keep ourselves on the positive road. We do so by remembering the good stuff, the new place we want to be.

So...are you focused on what you want? Or what you don’t want?

Are you pro-resolutions or anti-? If you are anti Are you pro-resolutions or anti-?

If you are anti, I get it.

A few too many resolutions begun and not completed.

92% of resolutions are dropped by the third week of January.

But here’s the thing, it isn’t RESOLUTIONS that are the problem, it’s HOW WE SET THEM.

Over the next 5 posts, I am going to share 5 reasons why resolutions don’t work...and how they can.

What grounds you? Do you have something that is c What grounds you?

Do you have something that is comforting for you?

Something that helps you exhale and relax even when life is a bit nutty?

Mine is a hot cup of tea, especially the first cup of the day.

And there is a ritual behind it.

I first fill my tea kettle with water and set it on the stove to heat.

Then I choose my tea cup. I have a huge collection.

I get a new tea cup whenever I have a shift in awareness about myself and feel like I am stepping into new energy. The cup represents the new energy and is my inspirational reminder as I drink. While I usually choose my “current” cup for my morning tea, sometimes a different message is what I need.

If it’s Sunday, I choose a mug with no message. It’s my quiet, reflective, introspective morning.

Then I choose the tea.

I have my morning black tea: one cup of Tetley Tea with a tablespoon of raw, local, honey.

(I choose green or white after lunch and an herbal before bed - just in case you were wondering!)

Once I add the hot water, I steep for 5 min, stirring in the honey as I wait.

Then, if no one needs me (I am a mom, after all :-) ), I sit with my tea and take the first 2-3 sips, breathing and staring out the window. It’s a glorious moment of calm.

I once challenged myself for one week to drink my entire first cup of tea while staring out the window. I LOVE It. While the entire cup of serenity has not stuck, the first few sips is a reminder.

Just writing about it brings me calm. It feels so good! I hope you have something like that. As we move into December, I am going to post about self-care more for the month. I think this month is a GREAT month for incorporating self-care. And to realize something as simply as getting yourself a cup of tea can be an act of self-care.

What’s a simple self-care act you have?
2020…am I right? Such a bizarre, exhausting, fr 2020…am I right?

Such a bizarre, exhausting, frustrating year.

I’m not sure what you did with it, but I feel I set aside a few things I really wanted to accomplish because I didn’t have the energy to step into it.

Simply surviving the emotional turmoil with a dash of aplomb is an achievement.

AND…I feel inspired to dive into life again. The realities of our life, the quarantine, etc, are going to be around for awhile longer. I don’t want to keep setting aside my dreams to wait for life to return to normal.

If you are with me, stick with me.

Starting today, we have 4 ½ weeks to the new year, the day for setting new intentions for ourselves. If you’ve been following me for awhile, you KNOW this is my FAVORITE time of year. I LOVE the energy of the New Year.

I think we can all agree - THIS New Year is more important than any other during of our lifetime.

It’s time to take a deep breath, acknowledge the challenges of 2020 and then step into this fresh year with new energy and vim & vigor.

It’s easy to forget, especially in light of what this year has been like, that we have more control over our lives than we realize.

So, that said, I will be resurrecting my “Monday Morning Musing” series for the next 5 Mondays (into January) to inspire you to powerful, meaningful, transformational New Year’s Resolutions.

Together, we can make our next year a powerful year for our lives.

We all have an Extraordinary Life in us (one that is deeply fulfilling, purposeful, and joyful). It’s time we all took a big step into it!

Right now is so hard. Burnout is a super common e Right now is so hard.

Burnout is a super common experience and I wanted you to see what some of the symptoms are.

I know i have been experiencing a slew of symptoms the past few months.

But here’s a quick tip for you: Self-care goes a long way to helping you with burnout.

It might not be the only thing you have to do.

BUT think of burnout is being completely tapped out of your energy source - as in the cup is not only empty, but there is a gaping hole in the bottom.

Self-care is our fuel.

At the very least, it helps you keep your head afloat so you can breathe.

On a scale of 1-10 (1 is awful, 10 is rocking life), how are you doing right now?

No matter what your number, can you commit to one extra piece of self-care that you do daily or weekly? Something that can take you up even just a half point?
