If you have been clearing clutter with us in the #10DayDeclutter (or any time), you know how great it feels! Not only does clearing a cluttered spot make you exhale with relief, but it also gives you a hit of energy whenever you look at it and enjoy how good it looks.

To take that “feel good” even further, you need to clear the energy of the space, too. Energy gathers around clutter and clutter gathers around energy.

Have you ever been in a cluttered home and you felt like you needed to stand in the middle of the room? Like you couldn’t breath and the moment you got outside you felt free? This feeling often happens in homes where people have lived for a very long time and may have “stuff” they haven’t touched in a long time.

While getting rid of the clutter helps clear some of the energy (which is why you start to feel better when you get rid of the stuff), you really need to also intentionally clear the energy or the clutter will just reform.

I enjoy a number of ways to clear the energy of my home. One of my favorite energy clearing tools is in the book, Creating Sacred Space with Feng Shui by Karen Kingston. Definitely check out that book sometime. I will blog around a clearing I do this way later.

In this post, I wanted to share with you a few ideas around clearing the space with essential oils. It is a much easier way to do it than the whole exercise from the book I mentioned and it is a way you can employ to clear the energy more regularly with ease.

Keep in mind, I only recommend using Young Living Essential Oils. I have done the research and while there are a few brands out there I would trust, Young Living has the most powerful oils (more bang for your buck) and the largest selection. If you want to learn more, you can read it here.

Two ways of using the oils are the most beneficial for clearing the energy in your home: Diffusing and Sprays.

Diffusing: Diffusing is using a machine to disperse the molecules into the air. Ensure the diffuser you are using is a cool mist diffuser rather than via heat such as a candle. The head will break down the therapeutic chemistry of the oils making them far less beneficial. I like a diffuser because I can set it and forget it and it will work for a few hours, clearing as I work.

Sprays:  I also like creating sprays. I can customize it, based on the energy I am clearing and being particular on what is replacing it. Plus, I can move throughout my house with intention.

Here are the oils I recommend:

Singles: Single ingredient oils.

Sage: A traditional clearing oil used in many Native American traditions. If you have ever heard of “smudging”, it is usually sage that is being burned. Sage clears negativity and builds a psychic shield against tensions.

Cypress: Tree oils, in general, are grounding and help cultivate a feeling of security. Similar to Sage, Cypress will purify surrounding energies. Cypress further helps us develop stronger boundaries.

Frankincense: “Frank”, as it is lovingly known as in my home, is known for purification. It has been used in churches for centuries because its aroma is not only uplifting but it also removes negative influences in the environment. I find it helpful to diffuse Frankincense in a room on a regular basis to keep the energy clear.

Cedarwood: Another tree oil and a majestic one at that! Cedarwood has a great spiritual strength, exactly what you need if you are feeling a negative attack. I find it particularly useful if whatever is happening in my life is making me think a bit too much.

Lavender: Lavender is a panacea. As one of the most complex oils, it can do many, many things. Lavender is particularly helpful to clear out energies that will not leave a space, when you are feeling particularly stuck.

Blends: Multiple oil blends unique to Young Living

Release: A relaxing aroma that facilitates the ability to let go of anger and frustration. It also promotes harmony and balance when diffused. I like to use this oil just before I begin my clearing to help with the letting go process.

Tranformation: includes Idaho Blue Spruce, Palo Santo, and Ocotea. These powerful essential oils empower you to replace negative beliefs with uplifting thoughts when diffused. A great oil to use while you are clearing to help you with the actual transition from the old to the new.

White Angelica:  With the aroma of White Angelica essential oil blend, you can create a positive atmosphere and inspire feelings of security and optimism—no matter what life throws at you. A great oil to spray into your space when you are finished with your clearing.
